When Mercy Finds Us: The Compassionate Visit of God 

Main Point: When were lost in darkness, and shuffling through the shadow of death, mercy came looking.

Luke 1:78-79

Introduction: Is. 58:8 Then your light will appear like the dawn, and your recovery will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the Lord’s glory will be your rear guard. 

Jer. 23:5 “Look, the days are coming”—this is the Lord’s declaration— “when I will raise up a Righteous Branch for David. He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land. 

“Because of our God’s deep compassion, the dawn from heaven will visit us,

The Merciful Gift of His Holy Son. (78) 

1. Jesus came to save His people! 
2. Jesus came to strengthen us & soothe the wounds of His people! 
3. Jesus came to shepherd His people! 

to give light to those who are sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death 

The Merciful Gift of His Holy Scripture. (79a) 

1. The Word shines on those who sit in darkness. 
2. The Word shines on those who stand in the shadow of death. 

to guide our feet into the way of peace.” 

The Merciful Gift of His Holy Spirit. (79b) 

1. The Holy Spirit guides our feet into the way of peace with our omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent God. (Spiritually)  
2. The Holy Spirit guides our feet into the way of peace with others. (Relationally) 
3. The Holy Spirit guides our feet into the way of peace with ourselves. (Emotionally)
