The Voice of the Shepherd
John 10:1-6
Key Point: True followers of Christ recognize and follow the voice of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, while rejecting the voice of impostors.
“Truly I tell you, anyone who doesn’t enter the sheep pen by the gate but climbs in some other way is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.
- The Shepherd’s Authenticity– The Rightful Leader (10:1-2)
- The thief will steal.
- The robber will strike.
- The sovereign Shepherd.
3 The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought all his own outside, he goes ahead of them. The sheep follow him because they know his voice.
- The Sheep’s Awareness– Responding to the Voice of Truth. (10: 3-4)
- Jesus knows us intimately. His Salvation
- We follow Him instinctively. Holy Spirit
- We recognize His voice intuitively. Holy Scriptures
5 They will never follow a stranger; instead, they will run away from him, because they don’t know the voice of strangers.” 6 Jesus gave them this figure of speech, but they did not understand what he was telling them.
- The Sheep’s Avoidance– Rejects the Lies of all Impostors. (10: 5-6)
- The sheep won’t follow strangers!
- The sheep flee from strangers!
- The Pharisees fail to recognize the True Shepherd.
- Tune Your Ear to the Shepherd’s Voice (John 10:3-4)
- Commit to spending time daily in God’s Word and prayer so you can recognize His voice more clearly.
- Question: Are you filling your mind with truth, or are other voices drowning out the Shepherd?
- Trust the Shepherd and Follow Him Fully (John 10:4)
- Obedience is the mark of true discipleship. If Jesus is leading, are you following without hesitation?
- Challenge: What’s one area of your life where you need to step out in faith and follow Christ’s direction?
- Turn Away from the Voice of Strangers (John 10:5)
- Reject the lies, distractions, and counterfeit voices that pull you away from Jesus. The enemy is always whispering—will you flee or follow?
- Self-Check: What voices (culture, sin, fear, doubt) are trying to lead you astray, and how will you silence them?
